Why stay in Eixample Esquerre?
The Eixample Esquerre neighbourhood in Barcelona is one of the most ideal areas to stay in because it is borders the city centre and is very well connected.
It features one of the largest plazas in Spain; Plaça d'Espanya and it is right next to one of the most famous; Plaça de Catalunya. It is an authentic section of Barcelona - with charming residential markets like Ninot Market - that's also well-connected with the rest of the city and is also known as a meeting point for gay visitors to Barcelona thanks to the abundance of clubs (as mentioned in our gay guide to Barcelona.
Eixample Esquerre is known as a Barrio or "Neighbourhood" in the district of Eixample. The other half of the district is known as the barrio of Eixample Dret.
How to get to Eixample Esquerre from the Airport
Once you arrive in Barcelona's airport, it's not difficult to get to Eixample Esquerre.
- Train (Renfe): The train to the city can be caught from Terminal 2 (there is a free transfer bus between the two terminals). You can get off at Sants, and catch the blue line (L5), which has stops in the north of the neighbourhood, like Entença and Hospital Clinic. You walk to your accommodation from there. Otherwise you can get off at Sants and change to the green line (L3), getting off at Espanya or Passeig de Gràcia.
- Aerobus: In both Terminal 1 and 2 there is a blue bus called the "Aerobus" that will take you to the city. You can get off at either Plaça d'Espanya or Plaça de Catalunya, depending on whichever is closer to your accommodation.
- For a more convenient option (and no walking with large suitcases) the low-cost taxi from this webpage takes you directly to the doorstep of your holiday apartment and back to the airport again when it's time to go home.
