We can recommend to make a walk in the small streets of Born and the Gotic - and also go to the bars and restaurants to have a drink in these places instead of the Rambla - much cheaper to have a drink here and here is so many different lovely small shops. You get a small beer at the Plaza St. Jaume for 4,10 EUR and a large beer for less than 4,10 EUR in a bar in one of the small sidewalks of Av. Portal de l'Angel.

Just to avoid the restaurants that are obviously aimed at tourists. Hugely overpriced. And I wouldn't say to avoid Las Ramblas, but obviously, be aware of pick pockets.

Buy the T-10 metro ticket (you save more than 50%). Always ask for the price of beverages in restaurants, because sometimes they aren't listed on the menu and can end up costing you as much as the meal itself. Go to eat tapas at the Poble Sec area, it's cheaper and better. Bring your student ID to get cheaper into museums, the ZOO, Sagrada Familia etc.

Avoid eating in restaurants on Rambla. They're traps, the food is bad and most restaurants are pretty dirty. Places around Diagonal / Eixample, or restaurants in Barri Gotic with NO english menu are better choices. If they have a menu in English, they target tourists. For the metro, we bought a few T10's (10 trips for 10 euros) and spent less than if we would have if we'd have bought a Barcelona tourist card each.

If you are interested in art, buy the articket and artcoticket from the Barcelona tourist office on-line - it means you save about half the price on the galleries/museum entry. Some museums have free entry on certain days/after certain times so look out for these. Avoid- be careful in Raval.
