What makes an ideal apartment for a short weekend break in Barcelona?

Barcelona is a city that has a countless amount of places to see and things to do. It's not that expensive and if you live in Europe it's easy to access by car, train, coach, or plane. That's why it's a great destination for a quick city weekend break. From cities like London and Paris, flights are fairly cheap and you might have decided spontaneously to you want to visit for the weekend. For this reason, almost all of our holiday flat rentals are available for a last minute weekend break in Barcelona via an instant confirmation booking.

Prices of our weekend flat rentals start from €5/person/night with capacities ranging from couples to large families. So you can visit and enjoy Barcelona simply whenever you feel like it! Enjoy the beaches, character of the neighbourhoods, tapas bars, and lots of attractions that cannot be missed.

Where to stay in Barcelona for a weekend break?

  • Ciutat Vella. For weekend breaks to Barcelona, having a central apartment in Barcelona is the most convenient way to be close to everything. Ciutat Vella is a reasonably short walk from the beach and has places to see dating as far back as the Roman era. This district includes neighbourhoods like Raval, Barceloneta, Gothic Quarter, and Ribera; all with countless restaurants, bars, and stores.
  • Eixample. This district is the birthplace of Catalan Modernist architecture, made famous by Antoni Gaudí. It's not as central as Ciutat Vella, but you can normally always get a flat rental close to the Sagrada Familia for short breaks, with plenty of sights nearby to see within a weekend. If you still prefer to be in the centre, you can stay close to Plaça de Catalunya. This district is very big after all.
  • Gràcia. Not that central, but very authentic, staying in Gràcia offers visitors an authentic feel of the city upon arrival. Its squares with terraces are perfect to enjoy a drink on and the quaint locally owned shops offer original souvenirs. It's very well connected with the rest of the city and you can get to the centre within 20 minutes using public transport. This area is generally cheaper to stay in than central areas, so it's ideal if you want to experience the authentic city during cheap weekend breaks to Barcelona.

Essential things to see in Barcelona during a weekend break

  • Santa Maria del Mar Cathedral. This Catalan Gothic style building is found by Jaume I metro station. If you visit it you can enjoy its architecture and magnificent views over the city from the roof.
  • Las Ramblas. Known throughout the world, this avenue connects Plaça de Catalunya with the statue of Christopher Columbus by the city port.
  • MACBA. The Museum of Contemporary Art Barcelona - as it is known in English - is well worth visiting for its architecture alone, not to mention the square in front that fills with skaters, which offers a quick way to take a rest while people watching.
  • La Pedrera. This celebrated architectural masterpiece from Gaudí is located on Passeig de Gracia and is reminiscent of the waves of an ocean. It plays an essential part of any visit to Barcelona!
  • Casa Batlló. This colorful building is also on Passeig de Gracia and is also by Gaudí. Its colourful façade tells the tale of St. George of the Dragon. It has to be seen to be believed.
  • Sagrada Familia. Perhaps the most famous building in Barcelona. It's found in the neighbourhood named after it and whether you love it or hate it, you need to visit it to form your own opinion!
  • Park Güell. Visited by millions every year, Park Güell is a modernist treasure that blends nature with architecture alongside magnificent views of Barcelona.
  • Beaches. If it's sunny during your weekend visit, then a detour to the beach is always on the cards. Enjoy a bit of sun, sea, and sand on beaches like Barceloneta or Mar Bella.
  • La Boquería Market. One of the oldest marketplaces in Barcelona, and full of colourful and fresh produce.
