Dec 16 - Dec 17

On 15 December 2017, several generations of fans will be able to see a new episode released in cinemas… These concerts take place the days after!

Are you a Star Wars fan? Do you get goosebumps every time you listen to the soundtrack? Do you love the compositions by John Williams? If so, you can’t miss this opportunity! To celebrate this long awaited moment, the Camera Musicae Symphonic Orchestra has prepared two unique concerts that will take place in one of the prettiest places in Barcelona, the Palau de la Música Catalana.

Music Wars: The Last Musicians

Finally, on 15 December we are going to know a little more about the saga that is loved by everyone. On this day, the premiere of the eighth Star Wars will be shown all over the world, except in Italy where it will be shown on the 13th. Have you already bought cinema tickets? Have you read the rumours online? Are you ready?

In Barcelona, many people love Star Wars and cinema in general. You can find people humming the melody of the Imperial March on the streets, there are some comic book shops dedicated to the saga (Cosmic Wars in Sagrada Familia) and there is a movie marathon in English. However, the most anticipated and unique event is the concert entirely dedicated to Star Wars and the great John Williams.

The Music Awakens is the chosen title by the Camera Musicae Symphonic Orchestra who will perform pieces by Williams. Of course, the performance will be done in the iconic music hall of the Catalan capital — Palau de la Música Catalana. If you don’t know this marvel of modernist Catalan architecture, discover it here

The Awakening of Music at the Palau

The Awakening of Music

In 2015, the Symphony Orchestra gave us two sessions for the world premiere of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. They called this event Music Strikes Back. The concert filled the Palau de la Música's hall with fans.

There is a lot of expectation for the premiere of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, so the Palau de la Música decided to offer two sessions to musically recreate some of the most celebrated passages of this galactic saga. The epic music by John Williams will transport the public to one of the most famous scenes from the movie… but not only Star Wars. In fact, over his career the composer has collaborated with some of the most famous directors such as Steven Spielberg and Chris Columbus. Which film soundtracks will the Symphony Orchestra directed by Tomàs Grau surprise us with?

On 16 and 17 December at 12pm you will have the opportunity to attend this unique event. The concert lasts one hour, therefore if you only come for a weekend you will still have lots of time to visit Barcelona. If you are wondering what you can do in autumn in the Catalan capital, here are some tips.

Contrary to what you may be thinking, this event is not expensive. Above all, if you are going to reserve your tickets in advance, it will cost from €20–€50, according to the area you choose to sit in and when you reserve the tickets. You can find the website where you can reserve your tickets at the beginning of this article.

Come to the dark side of Barcelona

If you are staying in the city for more than a weekend, you will have the opportunity to enjoy all the activities that the Catalan capital can offer such as tributes to the Star Wars saga. Participate in the Star Wars: The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi Marathon in English. You will find lots of cinemas that show the penultimate and last films of this saga. If you need some advice on the cinemas to visit, here's a good article.

If you want a souvenir of galactic proportions, make a visit to the comic shop Cosmic Wars that's completely dedicated to Star Wars. The most valuable object that the store has is a figurine from the 80s that's worth €18,000.

If you can’t see this concert in December, you still have the option to see another concert with film score music at the Palau that will take place on 6 February 2018 with the most famous works from Williams, Velázquez, Morricone and Goldsmith.

And never forget… may the music be with you!
