The Barcelona shopper's guide

Barcelona is a paradise for shopaholics

Prepare yourself for a day of shopping in Barcelona. From beautiful boutiques, large shopping malls, and outlet malls, to flea markets and thrift stores. The city offers something for every type of shopper. And if you're fashion conscious; then you'll want to know how to dress appropriately in Barcelona, which includes a bit on shopping.

Shopping malls

Most shopping malls in Barcelona are outside the direct city center, but are always easy to reach via the Metro. Most malls are open from 9:00 to 21:00 or 22:00.

The most recently opened shopping mall is Las Arenas at Plaza Espanya. You can get to the rooftop of the building for a splendid view over Plaza Espanya and Montjuic. The largest shopping centre in the city is shares its name with the district that it's located in: Diagonal Mar.

Other large shopping malls are:

  • Gran Via 2: Avenida de la Gran via 75
  • Pedralbes: Avinguda Diagonal 609-615
  • Maremagnum: Moll d'Espanya 5 (open 365 days a year)
  • Glòries: Avinguda Diagonal 208

Outlet center of La Roca

If you're willing to make a short trip to a village outside of Barcelona, then La Roca is worth visiting. There are over 100 outlets where you can buy international brands with large discounts. In this luxury shopping area you find shops selling Armani, Burberry, Calvin Klein, Diesel, G-Star, Levis and most other famous brands.

You can get to La Roca by bus going from Carrer Casp 34. The journey takes about 50 minutes and the buses leave at 9:00, 11:00, 11:00, 16:00 and 18:00 every day. The shops are open from Monday to Saturday from 10:00 to 22:00

Boutiques

If you don't want to shop in the typical shops that you find in all these shopping malls then it is advisable to head to areas like El Born and Gracia. Here you will find great boutiques with all kinds of unusual stuff. Born is a trendy neighborhood where you find small boutiques with jewelry, shoes and clothes. Also there are many small art galleries.

Gràcia is a charming area with lots of small creative shops. Contrasting words like hip, traditional, bohemian, old, trendy and time-honoured attach themselves to this place. Especially the Carrer de Verdi street, which is not to be missed.

The Flea market of Els Encants

If you like flea markets then you will definitely love Els Encants. This is the largest open-air market of Barcelona. And you can purchase here everything from books and music to jewelry and furniture. The market is open on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 9:00 to 18:00. You can get to the market by Metro: Line 1 to Glories or Line 2 to Encants. It can be a fantastic place to buy souvenirs of Barcelona.

Luxury shopping at Passeig de Gràcia

The most expensive shopping street of Barcelona is Passeig de Gracia. This long street stretches from Plaza Catalunya to Carrer Gran de Gràcia.

Here you find expensive stores like Louis Vuitton, Armani, Burberry, Cartier and so on. Don't worry if your wallet is too thin for those stores, because there are also many less expensive stores, like the H&M, Zara, etc.
