If you want to take a shortcut, we've already selected 10 cheap apartments in Barcelona so that you don't have to go looking. Of course, it doesn't hurt to learn how to find some yourself!
1. Travel as a group
Holiday apartments work out cheaper the more people that occupy them. This is because the cost gets divided by each person staying, so while a couple might pay €40 each per night, staying as a group of 5 friends will only pay €16 per night each for the same apartment. It makes sense to travel as a group. Invite some friends or relatives along for the journey. The more the merrier! If you're a couple though, you can still save (take a look at the next point).
2. Book an apartment that matches your exact requirements
3. Don't pay extra for meals!
Many clients looking for a holiday apartments ask "how much to include meals?". While some places have this option, one of the best ways you can save in your accommodation is by preparing meals yourself!
A typical breakfast option in a Barcelona accommodation costs €20 per person per day! A lunch can cost around €10/person, and then a dinner out can cost you another €20/person. Why would you pay that when you can eat for €25 per person per week? Simply preparing your own meals can easily save you €30 - €50 per person each day.
4. Last minute deals
When it looks like there will be a period where no one is going to stay in an apartment, owners can offer last minute offers at rates as high as 70% off. For them, getting something is better than getting nothing after all. A win-win situation.
5. Avoid the peak season
If you're travelling during June, July, or August, then you're already paying too much to stay in Barcelona. Many owners have a seasonal price model which means even if you come a little bit earlier in May or a little later in September, you can save money. In fact, September is the best time to visit Barcelona because it's when the Mercè Festival is held!
You can save even more by coming between November – April!
6. Choose your location wisely
Staying in the city centre is nice because it has lots of attractions but you will save a lot more by choosing to stay in a non-central district. The difference between central and non-central can save you €200+ over a week. If you only spend €30 on the very efficient public transport system, then you'll be laughing all the way to the bank.
